A Profound Look Back at the Week: September 14-20

It’s the middle of September and in these parts this means it’s back-to-school time. What fun! Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: September 14-20

A Profound Look Back at the Week: September 7-13

It’s been another week of scary statistics, another round of  Who Will Guess Where The Economy is Going, and an almost unique experience for our household: temporary separation. Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: September 7-13

A Profound Look Back at the Week: August 31 – September 6

Tis Ber season and nothing can ruin my mood. Nothing at all. Well, except a few things. But no, not really. Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: August 31 – September 6

A Profound Look Back at the Week: August 24-30

Tonight on PLBW: Irina braves a mountain and her healthy respect of heights and lives to survive another seven days of heat.

Okay, I actually schedule these posts for the afternoon on GMT/morning on EST but I couldn’t resist this. Imagine it in Jeremy Clarkson’s voice. Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: August 24-30

Sit-Down Comedy: The Silent Killer

A virus or a bacteria is probably the first thought one has when confronted with the “silent killer” cliche. Or poison, possibly. But I’m not talking about any of these. I mean, who knows if bacteria or other microorganisms can’t produce noise? The result of their work often does and I’m thinking yeast here, not what you think I think. Anyway, The Silent Killer that haunted my childhood and for reasons of an unfortunate choice in life partner still haunts me now is not a microorganism. Or a poison. It is invisible. Scared yet? A Profound Look Back at the Week: August 17-23

The amount, gravity, and diversity of problems people around the world  have is staggering and not a little depressing. One of the things I am truly grateful for in life is that my problems tend to be of the insignificant variety most of the time. Which probably means I’m due some serious trouble soon but who knows. The universe may be napping and if this is the case may it nap until I die, thank you. Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: August 17-23

Downtime

I’ve always been a staunch opponent to metaphors comparing people to machines. It could be because of my not exactly positive opinion of the behavioural school of psychology (the original one) but anyone telling me they’re going to X place in nature to “recharge their batteries” is asking for it. And yet I must admit there is something we share with machines. The need for downtime. Continue reading Downtime

A Profound Look Back at the Week: August 10-16

Autumn is coming. I repeat, autumn is coming. Sorry, summer lovers, it’s going to be over soon. But autumn’s pretty, so don’t be too sad. And then, of course, think that winter is coming. It’s always coming, right? There. (Okay, that could be construed as cruelty to a certain fandom so I’m sorry.) Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: August 10-16

A Profound Look Back at the Week: August 3-9

It’s been a week full of things I’d never done before such as finding the default music player on my laptop and playing with a dog. I also didn’t write a word of fiction but that’s fine. My brain’s taking a break and I fully understand — heat is not conducive to anything but the most rudimentary mental tasks. Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: August 3-9

A Profound Look Back at the Week: July 27 – August 2

My least favourite month has started and I apologise to all who happen to have been born in August. I’m sure you’re all lovely people but I have a thing for August and it is not a good thing. And I have good reasons for it, including three incidents that required urgent medical attention and two deaths. Suffice it to say I don’t expect anything good from August. But you never know. Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: July 27 – August 2
