A Profound Look Back at the Week: February 1-7

The first week of an unusually neat month (starts Monday, end Sunday) was not particularly eventful but it ended with a supernice trip out of town, so I’m having another PLBW in pictures. Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: February 1-7

Writing Addiction

I did some of my finest writing to date on Sunday. There was no particular reason other than I wanted this chapter done with because I hadn’t written for two days straight. It was going to be a drudge, to be fixed in the second draft. Now I think it’s the best part of the book so far. Continue reading Writing Addiction

2020: The Year in Snapshots

It’s recap time and it is one of the many things about the end of the year that I love. So here it goes, in snapshots. Continue reading 2020: The Year in Snapshots

A Profound Look Back at the Last Full Week of 2020

Excess season is upon us and will stay upon us for another week, which is great. We all need a bit of excess from time to time. The only problem with it is that with age the amount of relatively safe excess shrinks while the price you pay for it in hangovers and heartburns increases and this is the most profound message I could scrape off my holiday brain. Life is very unfair. Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Last Full Week of 2020

A Profound Look Back at the Week: December 14-20

The closer we come to the end of the year, the fewer things are happening. As it should be. We all need a bit of a break from time to time. Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: December 14-20

A Profound Look Back at the Week: December 7-13

It has been another week of vaccine and lockdown news, as well as lockdown and vaccine news, and I don’t even want to start on Where the Economy is Going (Any economy. Anywhere) so I won’t. Let’s talk about something more profound. Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: December 7-13

A Profound Look Back at the Week: November 9-15

I’m having another profound look in pictures because it’s been a hell of a week and I’m still recuperating from it. Nothing major, just superbusy, stressful and generally unpleasant. The new normal. So here are some autumn pictures. If you’re sick of autumn pictures because of overindulgence, sorry! Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: November 9-15

A Profound Look Back at the Week: October 19-25

You know that chilly smell that begins to seep through doors and windows in late October and early November? It’s sharp and it promises below-zero temperatures. Yep, the smell of winter, with a hint of burning wood from the fireplaces of those romantic enough to believe it can kill the cold. Winter is — and I know this will eventually get old but it still hasn’t — coming. (Fun fact: I’m not even a GoT fan. I can take it or leave it. But this is the most wonderfully ominous sentence I’ve come across in a long while, so there.) Continue reading A Profound Look Back at the Week: October 19-25

Ik Speak Mange Разные Limbe Molto Bene

Let me see now. Since I started studying Russian in the second grade I must have tried learning about half a dozen languages. I only mastered one, mastering here meaning I achieved a reasonable level of fluency. As for the rest, hope springs eternal.

The 37th Invention of the Wheel

I’ve been inventing the wheel for as long as I can remember. Sometimes I invent it once a week, other times are slower and I only invent the wheel once a year. Continue reading The 37th Invention of the Wheel
