Nice to meet you there, my name is Irina and I write. I write for a living and I write for pleasure. No, make that not pleasure but enjoyable necessity because these people in my head want to get out and there is nothing I can do to stop them.
So, I write for a living (check out Oilprice in case you care about oil, gas, and all things energy) and I write out of necessity to free the stories that clutter my mind (check out Down with the Fallen and the upcoming Transcendent anthology, also The Hamthology). If you’re into urban fantasy, my first novel, The Lamiastriga, was published in May 2019.
When I was younger, my dream — after I gave up on the idea of becoming a therapist –was to be a journalist. Journalists are cool, right? They have these hectic-but-still-cool lifestyles, they travel, they talk to interesting people, etc. Dreams, I’ve noticed, have this way of coming true unexpectedly. I will most certainly not complain about that even though, of course, reality always falls short of the mental image.
I also dreamed of becoming a writer. Writers are glamorous! Writers are smart! They invent worlds! I don’t know about the glamour and the smartness — I’m neither — but inventing worlds is the best. That’s not to say it’s all fun and ease but it is the most rewarding work I’ve ever done and the one I’ll keep on doing until I have access to a computer or paper and pencils. The thing is… well, the thing is writing helps me stay sane. The world’s going to hell as it always has and I need a distraction. I haven’t found anything better than writing.
My latest dream is that a lot of people would read my stories and take even a little bit of pleasure in doing it. I’m doing my best.
